Agent troubles again!

Just had a call from the reference check company wondering why the University of Portsmouth say I left 18 months ago...... She was quite accusatory originally until I pointed out that the reference check was made without our knowledge and probably contravened the laws on privacy.
After going telling her where I worked and what my bosses name and title where she said "oh if he is busy I can fax over a form...." Which she did.. Being an honest individual I got him to fill it out and sent it back. What was to stop be filling it out I am not entirely sure.... In that respect it proves practically nothing, just gives me more of a headache....
