Sweden a viking odesy.
Jun. 21st, 2009 10:38 pmWell I am now back home and clean after a very fun weekend in Sweden.
I set of before 4am on Friday to drive to Heathrow to get the flight to Stockholm. I was slightly over weight and BA now charges £25.00 if your bag weighs between 23-32kgs which is sad as they used to be nice about that sort of thing but no.... Grrrr.
where I met Margaret and others including the surprise visitor of The Queen's Father who wasn't expected to come but it was priceless when she realized he was there.
Once set up we commenced working at the Royal Wranglers which on Friday was relatively low key for me. I helped with a meeting about the coronation ceremony, served at high table. Then as it had been a long day I retired to bed.
Saturday was always going to be the busy day. I was asked to be the Herald for both Coronation and the First Court. Coronation was a cast of thousands affair but Eleanor did a fantastic job as Kingdom Seneschal and I think I managed to keep things on track with music, props and getting people on and off stage and I got to do the Vivats. :)
First Court was always going to be long with lots of Fealty Oaths to be taken, quite a few gifts to receive and some awards to give and whilst I think it was a long court I managed to keep it moving to keep it light hearted and to keep it interesting. I was probably the longest court I have run (certainly in a very long time) and I think one of my best efforts I enjoyed it too even if I was knackered afterwards.
It was amazing watching Margaret at work though. She is tireless and with infinite patience as she organises and makes sure that all the necessary things happen for Their Majesties. I would have run out of steam at about 7pm Friday but she was still going Sunday when we left. My dearest you are a wonder.
After a well researched Viking Feast. The folks I was dining with decided it was time for Sauna. Given that what happens in the sauna says in the sauna their names will remain a mystery but needless to say, baudy stories where told, silly songs where sung, clothes where mislaid and dipping in the very cold lake was made. I also made several forays into the hall in just a towel to get drinking water.
Sunday was very low key with lots of packing and the flight from hell but I am now off to bed.
