I am currently sitting in Margaret's appartment in Eindhoven having had a good time of it near Kiel in Northern Germany at Crown Tournament.

Friday saw us drive from Eindhoven to the site which took us a staggering 9 hours. Thank you Margaret for driving so far. We stopped a couple of times and had something of a cultural shock for me a decent stop at a roadside place to eat. I had a steak cooked fresh for me and Margaret had a Turkey steak and both where very tasty.

After a good night socialising the morning of the tournament dawned. It was a wet day but for me in oddly added to the atmosphere. For me there always something romantic about being in the woods (for the site had many trees surrounding the list field) in the rain and with all the tents, the armour the beautifully dressed people it was glorious.

It was both my privilege and pleasure to herald the invocation court including presenting a number of the entrants, the tournament and also the investiture of the Crown Prince and Princess.

To say I had fun with the introductions would be disingenuous because it went beyond that. I introduced the first entrants (Eorl Thorvaldr and Countess Fiona) pretty much as follows.

Yours Majesties I present unto you His Excellency Thorvaldr Skeglauss, Second Earl in Neberwald, Member of the Silver Guard and Countess Fiona Wiggins, Lady of The Rose, Member of the Order of Queen's Courtesy, 2nd Artisan of Drachenwald, maker of Royal Hats and reknowned woman of beauty, who do this day by right of decent from your reknowned and much loved predecessors Thorvaldr and Fiona claim to the true heirs to the black dragon throne and Thorvaldr will defend this claim against any other who would dispute it with his body.

Ahh the joy of being a herald. I did this whilst prowling the list field, it was a joy to work in the round again rather than just have to stay beside their Majesties and best of all was the stunned silence whilst the claim sank in. Their Majesties where brilliant in response stating that this was some claim and that they hope Thorvaldr could back up this claim.

From their all parties claimed to be the true heirs and I had a sudden realization. What we do with our Crown Tourney can be explained as a being a judicial process of trial by combat of the various claims to be the rightful heirs to the Thrones.

I am sure this was obvious to everyone else but it hadn't occurred to me before and it was so much fun to just go all out and over the top on this sort of thing.

The timetable for the event was rather tight so the tournament was fought on two fields which as I was the herald for both fields kept me rather busy keeping track of the various winners, announcing the next combat but we got their and found that it was Sir Vitus and Eorl Thorvalr in the tournament with one loss a piece.

With the final going 2-1 to Thorvalder this was a close but very hard fought, clean, and chivalric tournament a pleasure to behold.

All that was left was to invest the new Prince and Princess and settle back and enjoy the event. I was not on the hook to run court in the evening as Lady Perdita did a most excellent job.

I was struck and pleased by how many people said that the tournament was very atmospheric and who thanked me for my efforts, it was fun and I always feel a bit awkward when people thank me for doing something I love and enjoy.

Dinner was very nice and I had the most excellent company of Sir Vitus and Duchess Nerisa to keep myself and Margaret Company which was a most excellent end to a wonderful day.

One further thing I can report is that His Royal Highness was not to be seen anywhere later on in the evening but a very green looking creature with funny ears was spotted sitting in his place at the High Table a very curious event.

Sunday's drive home was less troublesome as we went via Hannover rather than Bremmen and thus avoided alot of the road works which had plagued us so much on the trip up.
