Well that was a day, a fun one, but a very long one. Leonne took her young horse out to Wickstead Equestrian Horseplay and took some others including Jay and myself. It was a full service day out with me putting Jay in my trailer and towing him which I am pleased to say went very well and Jay was just a darling to load and unload.
Once we got there and unloaded, tacked up, we entered the arena with loads of show jumps and some all weather cross country areas. Just a lovely facility and I can honestly say I think Jay really enjoyed it too because he just ate the place up.
There was none of the struggling to canter or walk and trot properly he just put his head down engaged the rear end and went for it.

After a nice warm up we jumped a few show jumps and other than a few rider errors he just got on it and at least tried to jump things when I pointed at them.

Although he did nearly get abducted by aliens. :O

After a bit of time playing with the show jumps Leonne wanted to get serious with her jumping, which was a bit out of our league so I went to explore the XC part of the facility and well he was a dude. We went straight into the water and yes he slowed when it got deep the first time but it wasn't long before we where cantering though the water and up the banks as you can see in this video.
We also got the hang of non-water banks and going round the various loops. I mean we knocked stuff down a lot but he was really lovely and willing, neither too forward or needing much chiving along.
He clearly felt at home here I mean.

Okay so it took us quite a while to get the hang of the ditch but we got there and then I got a bit too adventurous, not so much brave but just stupid. After a lovely blast round the loop I tried to turn Jay into a little tiny corner on the end of row of jumps and I thought we were nicely locked on when Jay had other ideas and jinked to the left. Nothing too bad but then he slipped and well that was it I was out the side door and sliding on my bum in the sand. I got straight back on of course and had a nice few more jumps so all good.
Loads of fun and all home safe.
Many thanks to Leonne for inviting me, to Ciaran for taking photos and videos. That really was a huge Christmas Present. Just lovely.
